Tom Crago  |   TANTALUS

Tom Crago is the CEO and owner of internationally renowned video game developer Tantalus, a studio with more than forty highly acclaimed titles to its credit, including a handful of million-unit sellers. Tom also owns and runs sister studio Straight Right, which has worked on some of the industry’s biggest franchises including Mass Effect, Deus Ex and Need for Speed.

Tom is a past President of the Game Developers' Association of Australia, the peak body representing the interests of the local game development industry, and has advised State and Federal Governments on IT policy in Australia. He is presently a Board Member of the Australian National Development Index. Tom has degrees in Arts, Law and International Business and is completing a PhD at the University of Melbourne. His book, Flashbacks from the Flow Zone is published internationally by Hardie Grant.

Nicolas Sehnaoui  |   Tech hub

Born in 1967 and married with three kids, Nicolas Sehnaoui served as the Minister of Telecommunications of the Republic of Lebanon between June 2011 and February 2014. He successfully upgraded Lebanon’s telecommunications infrastructure rolling out 3G and 4G, securing redundancy on the international connectivity, launching a national Fiber Optic Backbone and Beirut Digital District to name only a few of his accomplishments.

His efforts were crowned by the United Nations International Telecommunication Union that ranked Lebanon 1st in progress out of 157 countries in the 2012 ICT Development Index.

Teut Weidemann  |   BLUEBYTE

Teut Weidemann has been working in the professional gaming Industry since 1987. He already started working with computer games as a hobbyist on Commodore Pet 2001 in 1981, selling his first creations on cassette tape in school.

As a development director for Softgold and Rainbow Arts during the golden Home Computer age, he shipped over 40 titles on the now classic platforms. His career took him through consulting a Nobel prize winner and Microsoft Games in Seattle until he finally founded his own Development Studio Wings Simulations in 1996.

For 10 years he has led the studio, and successfully sold it to a publisher. His milestones were being one of the first German developers with a world wide publishing contract and the products Panzer Elite and Söldner - Secret Wars. He also showed how successful community building can support an online product.

In 2005 Teut was hired as CTO for the public listed CDV AG, one of the oldest German publishers, where he was in charge of development, marketing and technology.

Since June 2007 Teut has been consulting various companies in their efforts entering the new gaming platform: the Internet.

Since 2011 he has been hired by Ubisoft/Bluebyte as an online game specialist after he has assisted Ubisoft in publishing the highly successful browsergame “Die Siedler Online”, which won the “Browsergame of the year 2011” award.

Further he assisted Ubisoft in creating and publishing the online games Silent Hunter Online, Anno Online, Might & Magic Heroes Online, Panzer General Online and also was involved in the post launch monetization of Assassins Creed IV Black Flag.

The recent title with his involvement is Assassins Creed Identity on iOS which just has been announced.

Felix Mertikat |  King Racoon Games

Felix Mertikat is an illustrator, game designer, lecturer and consultant for the creative industry. He creates story worlds for films, comics, videogames, boardgames or roleplay games. His worlds are picturesque, fantastic, futuristique and sometimes gloomy and melancholic. His artistic journey began in 2008 when he published his first tabletop role-playing game OPUS ANIMA which later was the basis for his award winning comic series STEAM NOIR. As an illustrator he was booked by a variety of companies and projects like Call of Cthulhu, Shadowrun, DSA, Snickers, Playmobil etc..

2015 Felix founded the lable KING RACOON GAMES and published the amusing family boardgame SCHÄFERSTÜNDCHEN in which bandits steal sheep from village people unless they beat each other up. After he received overwhelmingly postive feedback during the International Boardgame fair in Essen, Germany he created the card game „ALLE MANN AN DECK“  which will be published in spring 2016.

Later this year he will put his monumental strategy boardgame TSUKUYUMI - FULL MOON DOWN on the market.

Aras Şenyüz spent over 10 years in sales and marketing within leading global companies such as L’Oréal, Unilever and Vodafone managing various brands with successful track record. Cem Nahit Köne completed his education at Yeditepe University Computer Engineering Department with a study on 3D Computer Graphics and stereoscopic applications. After receiving a Microsoft System Engineer certificate from Bilge Adam Training Institute, he worked as a lecturer in the same institution. He worked in the integration of Microsoft Systems at Turcom Technologies. Prior to Google, Rami held various positions at Facebook and the United Nations. Jad started his professional career in Mobile with a startup in Paris, specializing in Mobile Advertising. He joined App Annie early 2015 and is in charge of Business Development in EMEA focusing on the Middle East and Turkey.

Walid gets his computer engineering degree from the private college of engineering and technology of Tunis (ESPRIT) in July 2008 and began his career in the field of video games.

In 2004, he co-founded startup Tunisia games that organised the Electonic Sports Tunisian Cup from 2005 to 2009. He also took part in the organisation board of the "Electonic Sports World Cup - ESWC" in Paris 2005 to 2007 and in California on 2008.

He launched the first video game studio in Tunisia: DigitalMania in 2011 of which he is the CEO.

Burak Balık is one of the founders of the leading payment gateway “Gamesultan” in Turkish gaming industry. After selling his shares on 2009, he established “Joygame” which would become the largest game publisher in Turkey and MENA in a short period of time. Mr. Balık has a successful record of two large internet industry exits in the MENA region. He was also founder of a game development studio in India on the year 2010 and he has multiple investments in various industries. He keeps investing in multiple digital projects in Turkey and Middle East region under the recently established accelerator called “Boğaziçi Ventures”.

Brie Code  |   UBISOFT

Brie Code wants to make games for her friends who don't play games. Until recently, she was working at Ubisoft Montreal, where she led programming teams on Child of Light, Assassin's Creed III, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, and Assassin's Creed II.

Before that, she wrote AI, gameplay, and UI code at Relic Entertainment for the RTS games Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War. She was also a founding member of the Ubidiversity Team at Ubisoft Montreal, volunteers with Pixelles, and is part of the advisory committee for YES Montreal's Advancing Women in STEM through Mentorship Project. Her favourite games are Gone Home, Skyrim, and the Colonel's Bequest.

David Wessman  |   Impeller Studios

David Wessman is a veteran game designer with decades of experience in multiple genres and platforms. He has had the great good fortune to have worked on several hit games. He is also an experienced university lecturer who enjoys guiding and mentoring the next generation of developers.

David’s game industry career began in 1991 was a tester at Lucasfilm Games working on such classics as Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge, and Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, as well as contract work on Falcon 3.0 and other games. He moved into a creative role as a mission designer and writer on X-Wing. David was one of the founders of Totally Games where he worked on the entire X-Wing series, becoming the gameplay and story lead. In his spare time he developed two CSR award-winning board wargames.

In 2000 he followed the industry trend into console development and was the lead designer on hits such as Blood Wake, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, Saints Row and Death Jr. 2: Root of Evil. David became a regular speaker at conferences such as GDC and contributed a chapter on Simulators to Writing for Video Game Genres: From FPS to RPG.

In 2008 Mr. Wessman took a hiatus from industry to become a full time university instructor, devoting 5 years at the University of Advancing Technology in Tempe, AZ where he became the program champion for the game design degree. Returning to California 2013, he joined Impeller Studios as lead designer and UC Santa Cruz as a lecturer in game design. In 2015 he moved to the Netherlands to assume his current teaching position at the NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences. He continues to lead the design of Starfighter Inc.

Marwan Hayek  |   Alfa

Marwan Hayek is an experienced telecom executive with 22 years of field and operational experience. Hayek took the helm of Alfa, managed by Orascom Telecom Media & Technology (OTMT), as its Chairman and CEO, in March 2010.

Since then, Hayek has put his international experience at the service of the Lebanese telecom sector, by introducing state-of-the-art technology, contributing to putting Lebanon again on the Middle Eastern and worldwide telecom map.

Hayek has set Alfa as a leader in the mobile market in Lebanon. He has led the introduction of the 3G+ and 4G-LTE technologies in Lebanon (1st launched by Alfa in Lebanon in October 2011 and May 2013 respectively), and he is leading the implementation of the most advanced 4G+ LTE network which Alfa was the first to kick off in Lebanon in Q1,2016 after launching the 1st 4G+ live site in Lebanon in Q3,2015.

Mr. Hayek started his career with France Telecom in Lebanon – Cellis, known currently as Alfa, where he was part of the initial team that built the first GSM network in Lebanon, before joining later on the Orascom Telecom Holding (OTH) family back in 1999.

Since 1999, Hayek has held several assignments within the Orascom Telecom Group's subsidiaries and its Holding, the latest before his current appointment was in September 2007, where he joined Mobinil - Egypt that has more than 30 million subscribers, as VP Technology in charge of both network and IT infrastructure. With the winning of the Management agreement of Alfa by Orascom Telecom, in February 2009, and in addition to his position at Mobinil, Hayek was appointed on the Board of MIC1-Lebanon and Orascom Telecom Lebanon.

Prior to Mobinil, Hayek was the CTO of Mobilink-Pakistan (an Orascom Telecom subsidiary) since June 2003, where he played a major role in building an infrastructure capable of handling more than 30 million subscribers in less than four years. Between 2000 and 2002, Hayek was part of the team who built Sabafon's network in Yemen in the position of CTO managing both Technical and IT departments. Moreover, his role in business development between January 2002 and June 2003, as OTH Technical Director was substantial, where he worked on various projects and acquisitions in Africa and Asia. The work of Hayek contributed to the growth of OTH to over 120Msubs where he contributed directly to building an infrastructure capable of handling more than 60 million subscribers.

Mr. Hayek holds a Master's degree in Telecommunications and Electrical Engineering from the "Faculte Polytechnique de Mons" in Belgium. He had attended and participated in several technical, IT and Management trainings including but not limited to CCL, MEIRC, HEC, INSEAD, MIT & Harvard.

Throughout his career, Mr. Hayek has received several awards in recognition of his contributions to the telecom sector's development in Lebanon and the MENA region. In June 2011, he was awarded the Pan Arab "Telecommunications Man of the Year” title by the “Pan Arab Web Awards Academy." Furthermore, in 2012, he received the "Visionary Entrepreneur Award" at the Business Forum 2012 and in the same year he was awarded the “Golden Order of Merit for Leadership" from the "Arab Administrative Development Organization" (ARADO), an affiliate of the League of Arab States, and "Tatweej" Academy. In addition, and in honor of his achievements which greatly contributed to the advancement of Lebanon's digital economy over the past years, Hayek was awarded in February 2014 the "Golden Award for Leadership in Digital Economy" from "Tatweej" Academy.

Fawzi Mesmar   |   KIng (activISion blizzard)

A passionate game designer with over 13 years of experience in the industry, He has worked on multiple platforms (PC, Xbox360, XBLA, GBA, Facebook, iOS and Android). During the course of his career Fawzi has shipped over 17 games, many of them went to become big successes worldwide in many game development companies such as King, enish Japan, Gameloft, and Atlus to name a few. Recent releases include: 12 Odins, Ice Age Adventures, My little pony Friendship is magic, Littlest Petshop, Wonder Zoo and Persona 3 Social all multimillion player hits. Fawzi is also a competitive gamer, he was a WCG (world Cyber games) 3rd place national finalist in STARCRAFT 2010, and 5th place national finalist in Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition in 2012..

 

Fawzi is a certified member of IGDA since 2005. He was a speaker and panelist on DWGE, MGF, NZGDC 2013 and NZGDC2014 and has given game design lectures in notable schools around the world such as AUT, SAE, Lifeway College and Media Design school. Fawzi also attended many world renowned exhibitions and conferences such as TGS, GDC, E3, PAX and more.

Michele Baratelli   |   Gameloft

A mobile & digital enthusiast, Michele is Gameloft’s Marketing Director for Southern Europe, Middle East & Africa. He has been involved, during the last 8 years, into all the major changes of the mobile games business model as well as the ones related to mobile marketing.

Mohammad El Saadi |   Google Play

Mohammad El-Saadi is a Partner Development Manager at Google Play. In his role, he helps apps businesses from Middle East and North Africa to find success on Android and Google Play. Prior to Google, Mohammad was the CIO of Telly, a social video network and the Founder of Sha-Sha Entertainment, as well as a Senior Consultant at Booz & Company.  Mohammad holds a BE from the American University of Beirut, an MSECE from Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

While working on Zurna, he and his team pioneered virtual currency payments by integrating with various mobile and off-line payment methods to monetize the userbase in Turkey and abroad. Honor started his professional career as a Program Manager at Expedia.com where he launched the world’s largest cruise agency by unifying 12 cruiseline bookings on a single platform.

Honor graduated with a B.S in Technology Management (an individually designed degree combining HCI/Usability, Finance/Econ, and Sociology of Technology) from Stanford University.

Jayvian Hong |   MINICLIP

Jayvian leads international expansions for Miniclip - a global leader in digital games which develops and publishes award-winning mobile and web games, dominating both the IOS and Google Play charts. Miniclip reaches 180 million players each month.

She has an extensive range of responsibilities within Miniclip including building and maintaining successful relationships between Miniclip and developers, publishers, platforms, hardware companies, telecommunication networks and strategic partners.

Additionally, Jayvian is responsible for acquiring games, primarily focused on mobile. She works closely with various brands and IP holders to incorporate them into Miniclip’s games.

Jayvian has led the localisation and culturalisation of Miniclip’s flagship titles. Her ability to speak 5 languages has contributed significantly in allowing Miniclip’s games to reach beyond its traditional audience.

Tencent acquired a majority stakes of Miniclip in February 2015, at which point, Jayvian was the primary contact between Tencent’s operations team and Miniclip to expand Miniclip’s portfolio to Asia.

Jayvian is now focusing on exploring international expansion opportunities in the MENA region and is interested in speaking with developers and publishers based in the region.

In her leisure time, Jayvian enjoys baking and training at her local boxing club. She holds a Masters degree in Law and Economics and is a barrister.

Tomas Harenstam |   Paradox Interactive

Tomas Härenstam is a Brand Manager at Paradox Interactive, developer of renowned Grand Strategy games like Europa Universalis IV and Crusader Kings II, as well as publisher of last year's hit title Cities: Skylines, developed by Colossal Order. As Brand Manager, Tomas is in overall charge of Crusader Kings II franchise as well as the upcoming Paradox title Stellaris. Tomas has a long experience of the MENA region from his earlier career as a news reporter, and is really exited to seek out new talent in this part of the world as a representative for Paradox Interactive.

Mario Hachem |   TEDMOB

Mario Hachem has spent the last twelve years in the telecom, VAS and mobile industries. He led a great team at apps2you which was recognized as the “Best Mobile Application Developers” in the Middle East for 2013-2014. With a team of apps gurus and focus on outcomes that benefit the customers and company, Hachem led some projects and apps like “LAF Shield” which was to be awarded “Best M-Government App in Dubai” at the Deloitte awards for 2015.

“Throughout my journey I was elected as representative towards the government in the Beirut Creative Cluster whose vision was to create a world cluster of content, platform and technology providers, developing and distributing innovative digital content and technologies to global markets,” says Hachem.

With his extensive experience in the industry, in late 2015, Hachem felt it was time for a change to extend his outreach to a broad range of customers by opening his own business. On October 5, 2015, Hachem co-founded the company TEDMOB (Technology, Entertainment and Development for Mobile). To Hachem, the establishment of the company is a “dream come true.” He founded a team of seventeen developers to initiative the company; a team that he hopes to grow in 2016 by seeking out more talented individuals.

“Over the years, while working with telecom and mobile gurus, I realized that there is a huge need for telecom operators, enterprises, government, startup and entrepreneurs to leverage their distinct assets and capabilities by offering new innovative disruptive products and services,” says Hachem explaining the influence behind establishing TEDMOB.

Looking ahead, 2016 is sure to be a big year for TEDMOB, the up-and-coming tech entertainment development brand. As a new company, like any other, the company has and will face more challenges – but Hachem is up for it. For Hachem, one of his main focuses for the year is to continue to add more talented individuals to his team who can provide fresh ideas and expertise.

He admits that a challenge he faced in 2015 was the “economic and political situations in the region” which caused pushing back of some of his potential investors. However, Hachem remains optimistic offering this final statement: “If you have a good team and a good product, any company has a good chance at making it.”

Katy Hanna |  European Games Group

With over 8 years of experience in the gaming industry working in various positions in marketing and branding. Currently she is the head of marketing in a  German- based publisher company called ‘European Games Group’. She has worked with big corporations such as Electronic Arts and indie developers such as Cliffhanger productions and minority Inc.

Her portfolio covers different gaming genre from MMORPG to racing, manga and puzzle games.

In 2013 she co-initiated a yearly training program in Bir-Zeit university in Palestine, that trains students in 'game development and publishing'. The program aims to empower young entrepreneurs and provide them with tools to develop and publish their own games.

She is passionate about people, innovation, game psychology and yoga!

Zach Hajj  |  Impeller Studios

An aspiring writer and artist, from a young age Zach Hajj has been involved in creative projects of his own design. This attracted the attention of start-up gaming development firm Impeller Studios, where he was asked to work on the massive multiplayer project, Starfighter Inc. Here has been responsible for most of the game’s asset designs, provided critical effort for the development of its mechanics, narrative and background, and acted as the face of the company’s technical efforts and communication.
Zach continues to pursue his mechanical engineering degree at AUB, and will graduate this spring. He has a double minor in biomedical engineering and computer science, and helped to found the university’s Japanese Cultural and Robotics clubs.

Anders Lykke  |  Priori Data GmbH

Anders is VP of Talking to People at Berlin-based Priori Data and responsible for its Sales and Developer Relations efforts. Priori holds one of the world’s largest databases of information on the global app economy and provides leading investors, app publishers and tech companies with actionable insights on  how the apps they care about fare in the app stores. App Publishers who partner with Priori get free access to download and revenue data on each of their competitors and key markets.

Anders took an unconventional path to tech: A recovering comedian, Anders sung opera, had a TV production company, and did a stint in innovation consulting before joining Google at their European HQ in Dublin. Since then, he found his way to Berlin’s blooming startup scene and Priori. Along the way he was featured in the Berlingske Business Magazine’s “Talent 100″ for Danish business talents under 35.

Jasmin Srouji |  TINKERTANK

Jasmin Srouji carries a BA in media studies and a diploma in Transmedia & Games Producing from the Film Academy Baden-Wuerttemberg. She worked for two years in the Palestinian territories as a media producer for the non-governmental organisation PYALARA (Palestinian Youth Association for Leadership and Right Activation). Since 2013 she  works for the Interactive Media Foundation as a project manager. There she is in charge of the project „TINKERTANK-creative with technology“ which is aimed at youth aged 9-14.  Experienced mentors from the creative industry guide them in workshops and summercamps with topics like „Make Your Game“, „Tinker your Game Controller“ or „Hacking Cyberspace“. The goal is to enhance and stimulate the creativity, practical skills and self-efficacy of young people by (re-) introducing them to the exciting possibilitites that lie in technology.

Arif Yassine |   Moroccan Game Developers Association

Yassine Arif is the Co-founder and CEO at TheWallGames a Moroccan game development startup, he was graduated in Campus Ubisoft as a Level designer and joined Ubisoft as a Game Designer. He got 6 years’ experience in the video game industry where he participated in famous titles such as Rayman Origins, Legends and the mobile version with Ubisoft Casablanca and Montpelier. He quitted then Ubisoft to build TheWallGames. Yassine is also a game developer activist, he co-founded Moroccan Game Developers Community that aim to build a game industry, and to promote game development in Morocco.

Osama Hussein |   TheWallGames

Osama Hussain is a game developer and avid gamer with retro flavor. He is co-founder and CTO of TheWallGames, a game development studio based in Morocco, co-founder of Moroccan Game Developers, an association that aims to build the video game industry in Morocco, former engine programmer at Ubisoft, and game development teacher at CIGMA. During his +13 years game industry experience, he worked on several games such as Rayman Origins and Just Dance 2014. Currently, he is working on gaming projects that he thinks they will not be only fun to play but also add values to the player.

Amir-Esmaeil Bozorgzadeh is a cofounder at Gameguise, a Dubai-based publisher of online games in the Middle East and a consultancy to global game developers and publishers that need local help in understanding and operating in the market.

Fares BEN SOUILAH is a Tunisian professional radio presenter, journalist IT Expert. He is working actually in Radio Express FM Tunisia presenting a radio show titled "DATA" focusing on New technologies and gaming. He had a huge experience covering international events of Microsoft (Imagine Cup), Mobile World Congress, Unpack event of Samsung, Samsung Forums...
